Sustainable Enterprises Development

Through the Smokeless Homes initiative, CORIDON enables rural and peri-urban households’ access to clean and affordable energy facilities for cooking, lighting and phone charging. Since 2021, CORIDON has been active in the renewable energy sector of Uganda. We foster and nurture viable grassroots technology innovations, facilitate and train women entrepreneurs and youth as pioneers in green energy enterprises in the region in all the different product lines including but not limited to distribution of Solar Home Systems, solar pumps, Solar lamps, and other solar components to low-income, off-grid households on flexible pay-as-you-go terms in rural and peri-urban areas, improved cook stoves, briquettes, biogas on business models and entrepreneurship with the aim of improving access to clean energy, growing and scaling their energy businesses. They become our local ambassadors and change agents to promote awareness on the benefits of using green energy technologies in the households to combat climate change.

CORIDON Micro Entrepreneur Empowerment and Training is designed to help micro entrepreneurs enhance their business skills, increase their self-confidence and manage obstacles. Our training provides an interactive learning environment for entrepreneurs and utilizes techniques designed to support the learning of adults with limited education. Our program is tailored to support a micro entrepreneur’s ongoing journey through the provision of mentorship and advice over the long-term. CORIDON provides training to entrepreneurs who are willing to add innovation to their businesses including adopting new technologies in order to scale up their businesses. CORIDON supports the distribution of energy efficient and renewable energy household appliances in the most remote areas of Uganda, conducts community awareness for the community around the area where we have installed the intervention in order to adopt it and use it for their economic and social development.

CORIDON believes that feeding the increasing population sustainably and reducing the ecological impact requires fair and sustainable food systems. This is achieved through increasing the number of sustainable alternatives; reducing the climatic impact of agriculture and livestock farming; and ensuring that agriculture contributes to inclusive economic and social development. CORIDON promotes food security and sustainable food systems at the household level in the community and beyond while encouraging communities to take better care of their lands, diets, and generate incomes at household level through engaging in modern farming techniques such as Kitchen gardens, conical gardens, among others. In addition, we work with women and youth to engage them in the entire value chain of food production including; African leafy vegetables, Aquaculture, value addition of Cassava and sweet potatoes, beekeeping, etc. thus alternative sustainable livelihoods.

CORIDON endeavors for the inclusion of women and youth into the business of ecotourism through various avenues including the production of value-added handmade crafts, nature photography and eco-cultural tourism through cultural dances and traditional sustainable foodstuff.
